Historically an Everest training peak, Pumori has become a highly popular summit in its own right. Its appeal comes not only from the ability to use Everest Base Camp (Nepal) as part of the expedition, but also the the visual appeal of the standalone peak. It is often referred to as 'Everest's Daughter', lying just 8km west of the world's highest mountain and is seen by its climbers. Its name is said to translate to 'The Mountain Daughter' or 'Unmarried Daughter', and was given its Sherpa-language name by George Mallory.
