Description

Ruapehu is an active stratovolcano, the largest active volcano in New Zealand. It is the highest point on the North Island of the country and has three peaks, Tahurangi (the highest peak at 2,797m), Te Heuheu (2,755m) and Paretetaitonga (2,751m). The name Ruapehu is said to mean "Exploding Pit".
