Description
El Capitan, or 'El Cap', is one of the most famous and most popular rock walls in the United States. It is located in Yosemite National Park, California. The main (Southwest) face is over 900m (3,000ft) from its base to the summit. It is also a popular hike via the Northeast route, by hiking from Yosemite Valley on the El Capitan Trail, heading west past Yosemite Falls. Its name translates to 'The Captain' or 'The Chief'. The face has a number of different climbing routes. It was the scene of Alex Honnold's successful free solo of the face in 2017.
